Ergatta Lite Review (2024): Do You Wanna Play a (Rowing) Game?

While the best rowing machines utilize different types of resistance, on the Ergatta Lite, you’ll be working against the same water you would be on an IRL row — just inside a tank. Like other rowers that have you fighting against air or a magnetic flywheel, this cardio workhorse can fire up muscles throughout the body. “Rowing is a fantastic full-body workout,” says BarBend expert reviewer Amanda Capritto. “It engages the majority of the body’s muscles and can develop power and explosiveness.” ( 1 )  Our team thinks the whoosh of the water can help create the feeling of pulling the blades on a real boat, but if that’s not enough, the Ergatta app serves up scenic virtual rows and one-of-a-kind gamified workouts we haven’t seen anywhere else. While the weight capacity doesn’t match what we see on others we’ve personally tested, the oak wood build could be a fit for athletes prioritizing their living room vibes as much as their fitness goals. For all the deets on our time on deck...

“My Goal Is To Win Mr. Olympia” — Two-Time 212 Olympia Champion Keone Pearson Trains Like He’s Still Chasing the Title

One of the most anticipated showdowns at the 2024 Olympia was the rematch between 2023  212 Olympia  champion Keone Pearson and two-time winner Shaun Clarida, who lost the title to Pearson last year. That rematch occurred in Las Vegas, NV, on Friday, Oct. 11, and Pearson was crowned  champion for the second straight year . Clarida finished second again. Pearson became the first athlete since Flex Lewis to win consecutive 212 Olympia titles. However, he still has a long way to go to match Lewis’ seven titles — the most of any 212 athlete in history. Pearson has yet to celebrate his 30th birthday, so he has plenty of time to chase that mark in the record books. After taking time to recover from the intense training for the 2024 Olympia, Pearson joined  BarBend  for an interview about his time onstage, his thoughts on Clarida, and what his future holds as CELSIUS representative, including potentially dipping into another division before retiring from the c...

“He’s a Motherf%#ker”: Jay Cutler on the Most “Abrasive” Coach in Bodybuilding

Your favorite bodybuilder probably owes their success to Hany Rambod . Not literally, but almost — Rambod, whose industry-appropriate nickname “the Pro Creator” speaks for itself, has worked with many of the world’s most renowned bodybuilding competitors. “I tell people all the time, he’s a motherf&#ker,” said four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler . In 2009, Rambod helped Cutler make bodybuilding history when the duo walked Cutler back from a defeat at the Olympia one year prior that nearly forced him into an early retirement. After losing to Dexter Jackson, Cutler returned with Rambod at his side to reclaim the Sandow trophy, a feat that no other Men’s Open competitor has managed. Hany Rambod: Bodybuilding’s “Ball-Buster”  “I’m a ball-buster; ask Jay,” Rambod said during an appearance on Cutler’s podcast,  Cutlercast , on  Oct. 21,  shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 Olympia. “Quad stomp” Cutler agreed:  Cutler: “There are hard moments. The trut...

The CrossFit Leaderboard – Source of Anxiety or Value Add for Your Community?

In the early days, CrossFit.com was not much more than a leaderboard.  A “Workout of the Day” was posted every morning, and people were asked to post their scores in the comments. The leaderboard gained momentum as more people discovered CrossFit. By 2007, founder Greg Glassman decided to host the first in-person CrossFit Competition — the inaugural CrossFit Games — at Dave Castro’s family ranch in Aromas, CA. It was ultimately a chance for people who had been posting scores on CrossFit.com each day to see how legitimate both they and the other dot-com posters really were.
