3 Athletes Who Turned Heads at 2025 TYR Wodapalooza

Every year, TYR Wodapalooza seems to be a coming-out party for at least a couple of athletes.

Last week’s fitness festival in Miami Beach, FL, was no exception.

  • After sitting out both the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to a wrist injury, Lucy Campbell surprised the entire community (and herself) by taking the women’s title over the 2023 CrossFit Games champion and heavy favorite Laura Horvath.

Beyond Campbell, a handful of performances turned heads and are worth noting as we head into the 2025 CrossFit Games season.

Astrid Tind (12th, Women’s Elite Division)

[Related: Best Whey Protein Powders]

If you watched the live feed last weekend, the name Astrid Tind was one you likely had to Google after Day 1.

  • The 5-foot-11, 30-year-old Danish giant surprised everyone when she took an event win in the opening test in Miami. And then she went ahead and followed that up with a third-place finish in event two.

Tind, who has competed at the CrossFit Games on a team twice, went on to finish 12th overall in a competitive field and followed that up with a second-place finish with Team NUSA.

Though she did show some weak points in her game along the way, Tind was impressive on all four days of competition and is definitely someone to keep an eye on as this season unfolds.

Jack Farlow (8th place, Men’s Elite Division)

[Related: Best Rowing Machines]

OK, so fans of the sport were already familiar with Farlow’s name before Wodapalooza, but his performance last weekend reminded us of his talent.

Remind me: Farlow burst onto the scene at the 2023 CrossFit Games when he won the Olympic Total event by 21 pounds as a 21-year-old rookie. He finished 27th overall.

  • But then last season, Farlow failed to qualify for the Games when he finished 17th in the North America East Semifinal.

At last week’s TYR Wodapalooza, Farlow showed us just how good he can be.

He had four top-10 performances (out of six), and two top five finishes. His best finish was on “Worth the Weight” (1-rep max clean + hang clean), where he was second behind only Gui Malheiros.

  • Farlow went on to finish eighth in a strong men’s field, giving us plenty of reason to believe that the 22-year-old’s career is just getting started.

Max Krieg (9th place, Men’s Elite Division)

[Related: Best Creatine Supplements]

Like Tind, the name Max Krieg may have even eluded devout CrossFit fans prior to last weekend when he put together a top-10 performance against some of the fittest men in the world.

  • Though it was his first top-10 performance at a big competition, Krieg has competed at Semifinals the last two seasons, finishing 15th in 2023 and 16th in 2024 at the North America West Semifinals.

In Miami last week, Krieg had three top-five finishes, including a third-place finish on “Cuban Press,” and proved he just might be in the mix this season, vying for one of 30 invites to this summer’s CrossFit Games in Albany, NY.

The Big Picture

The season is young, and TYR Wodapalooza isn’t the be-all, end-all in determining who we should be keeping our eye on in 2025.

  • On the other hand, it sets the tone for the season and can go a long way in building confidence as we head into the CrossFit Open, Semifinals, In-Person Qualifying Events, and other competitions.

With that being said, Tind, Farlow, and Krieg are three athletes who should be feeling pretty good about their fitness.

Best Pre-Workout Supplements of 2023 For Weight Loss Muscle Gain and More

One of the most popular supplements on the market, people often turn to pre-workouts for help increasing energy, blood flow, endurance, power, and sometimes hydration. As such, you can find different combinations of beneficial ingredients (like caffeine, citrulline, and beta-alanine) in the form of powders, pre-made drinks, small liquid shots, and even chews and gum. But with the glut of information on pre-workouts from ill-advised TikTok trends (i.e., dry scooping ) to fit-fluencers peddling that good-good on all platforms, it’s easy to get lost in the weeds when choosing a pre-workout supplement. 6 Signs You’re Not Getting Enough Electrolytes

If all of your education about electrolytes has come from commercials on television or ads on social media, you’ve probably grown convinced of the fact that you’re probably not getting enough of them… whatever they are. It can be difficult to convince someone of their need for a nutrient if you can’t plainly articulate what that nutrient is, where it comes from, or what it accomplishes that’s of any tangible value. Well, in the case of electrolytes, you should definitely pay close attention, because a lack of these nutrients can seriously hamper your ability to reach your fitness goals. To shine some light on the topic, BarBend has teamed up with The Vitamin Shoppe — home to a range of hydration and electrolyte supplements from Liquid I.V., Kaged, and more — to detail six signs that you’re not getting enough electrolytes , along with easy ways to replenish these essential minerals.
